Zetra has officially released their self-titled debut album, and with it, they’ve woven a haunting, ethereal experience that pulls listeners into a gothic trance. Personally, I discovered Zetra, when they began touring with VV (ex-HIM), and it was a pleasant surprise to find a band carrying forward the distinct gothic sound I’ve long adored. With “Zetra”, the band offers a macabre noir experience, where every track feels like a journey between life and death, a crossing of boundaries between reality and transcendence. The album feels like a slow-motion trip through a gothic cathedral, where each haunting melody, brooding riff and somber vocal delivery creates a sense of dark reverence. There’s an ethereal, almost spiritual quality to the music, but it’s always balanced with an underlying sense of danger and melancholy. Zetra’s sound is an intricate blend of atmospheric gothic rock and post-metal, evoking memories of influential acts like Deftones and Type O Negative, yet, Zetra doesn’t simply mimic these bands. Instead, they’ve crafted their own unique approach, adding fresh textures and layers that set them apart. The album’s production is rich and layered, giving it a depth that enhances the immersive experience. Overall, “Zetra” is a stunning debut from a band that knows how to balance darkness and beauty. Their ability to evoke such powerful emotions while maintaining a distinct identity will make Zetra a band to watch in the coming years.
