The Squad was born in the summer of 2019, when bassist/songwriter Angelos Papangelou and drummer William V. Baldo started jamming. It wasn’t polite. It wasn’t quiet. It was heavy rock n’ roll! Soon enough, vocalist and main lyricist Greg Acontides grabbed the mic and stapled gasoline to the songs. By 2022, Rattlesquad were no longer a bunch of guys but a regular band, committed to authentic, fiery rock/metal music. The final piece dropped in spring 2022 with guitarist/songwriter Johnny Free. The chemistry made sense and the quartet felt complete, ready for the studio.
This band from Athens stands out for their sincerity, honesty, and raw fearless attitude. Their rock n’ roll is heavy, dirty, scorching and wild. Their influences span the broad spectrum of the heavy rock sound, yet beyond that core, their songs carry shades of 70s classic rock, 90s alternative rock, gritty blues, and even touches of country and southern groove.
This is exactly the world captured on Rattlesquad’s 2023 debut album, “1233”, a record that pulls you into the unique, signature and endlessly seductive universe of hard n’ heavy rock sound — the kind of music that burns bright, hits hard and carries the magic of raw, timeless rock power! And the ingredients in Rattlesquad’s recipe are loud, gritty vocals, flamethrower guitars, a rhythm section that hits heavy, and an arsenal of hard-rocking song ideas, where multiple styles of rock n’ roll fuse into one raw, unified sound. Some gems from the “1233” debut album are “Alan’s Song”, “Saos”, “Lonesome Highway” and “With Your Boots On”. But hey, no fillers can be found here!
Right now, the band is cooking new material like mad scientists preparing their next sonic bomb. They’re building what comes next with pure instinct, riffs, groove and a desire to burn everything down with music.
