OCTAVIAN WINTERS – “SAINTS OF ABSOLUTION” (2025, SINGLE, STRATIS CAPTA)

by MythofRock

Octavian Winters, the post-punk quartet from San Francisco, are getting ready to release their debut album, and now they’re putting out their third single, “Saints of Absolution”, which is the one we’ll be focusing on here. This track, like the rest of the band’s material, is dark and hypnotic, elegant and poetic. From the first moments, the track pulls you into its dreamy atmosphere. Stephan Salit’s guitar flows like a ritual chant, circling around the rhythm section of Jay Denton and Randy Gzebb, whose groove feels tribal, pulsing and alive. The basslines are thick and moody and the drums carry a sense of controlled chaos, giving the song its dark heartbeat. Above all, Ria Aursjoen’s voice steals the spotlight — haunting, sensual, and emotional, like a confession whispered in the shadows before exploding into a cathartic cry. Produced and mastered by William Faith (The Bellwether Syndicate, Faith & The Muse), the sound is impeccable. It’s rich, immersive, and cinematic, allowing every instrument to breathe while maintaining that mysterious mist of gothic beauty. Lyrically, the song digs into the theme of false idols — both societal and personal — exploring envy, hatred and the human tendency to follow dark paths. It’s reflective and deeply human, asking listeners to look inward while being surrounded by the chilling beauty of its sound. “Saints of Absolution” feels like a natural step forward for Octavian Winters. It expands their sonic palette and confirms their place among today’s most exciting darkwave and post-punk acts. For fans of Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Drab Majesty, this is a haunting hymn for the modern night.
