Texan gothic/doom/progressive/melodic death metal band Oceans Of Slumber have released their sixth full-length album, “Where Gods Fear To Speak”, and they continue to carve their own path and re-define the metal genre. Ten tracks, a gorgeously dark, genre-blending album and something special awaits us. The first, self-titled track is the head start and we immediately get the vibe this band is conveying. Extremely clever instrumentation, moments of death metal, even black metal, rock and gothic metal commence, making for a very interesting listen. A personal favorite of mine is the second song on the tracklist, titled “Run From The Light” – we are talking about a commanding, yet ethereal track, that evokes such strong emotions it’s hard to resist. Vocalist Cammie Gilbert-Beverly’s incredible voice is hard to pass by, as she showcases all her abilities, from soprano-like highs to death metal singer lows, she’s a powerhouse that adorns the instrumentation gorgeously. The closing track, a cover of the widely known “Wicked Game” (originally by Chris Isaak), is a nice surprise, a superb edition I’ll for sure be going back to. Definitely a fantastic, extraordinary album and a brilliant band I look forward to hearing more.
