A SHORELINE DREAM – “WHITELINED” (2024, LATENIGHT WEEKNIGHT)

by MythofRock

Colorado-based post punk/shoegaze outfit A Shoreline Dream are inviting us again to a new journey to distant soundscapes. Their eighth record to date, “Whitelined” is the soundtrack of dreams, the melody of thoughts, the ticket to other dimensions. In this album, particularly in three songs, A Shoreline Dream collaborates with Ride’s Mark Gardener, whose participation elevates the final result even higher. The album begins with a dreamy, otherworldly composition, the title track, which shows the intentions of the band. Then, we have “Everything Turns”, a truly lovely song, which has memorable vocal lines and melodies, woven into a web of sounds and feelings. “Fear” is a manifest of post punk/shoegaze, since the post punk sound of the band is combined successfully with psychedelia and space rock. Then we go to “Falling Back to Reality”, which is like a new wave band plays in a 80s progressive/art rock style. “Written in Dust”, with Gardener again as special guest, is a smart post punk meets pop composition, multi-layered and varied, with lush instrumentation and intricate arrangement. After the small, beautiful instrumental “A Spark”, comes “A Simple Path of Destruction”, which is again a fine musical trip to the stars, with its spacey synths, the delicate guitars and the nostalgic vocals. “Lost of the Words” is a proggy, otherworldly track, with brilliant guitar work, protagonistic bass lines and drum kicks. The album ends in the best way with two nice songs, “The Dream” (it feels like the post rock sound of the vast universe) and “Hollow Crown” (Mark Gardener’s here again), which is like Porcupine Tree went high and got lost in  a shoegaze dreaminess! “Whitelined” is a great album to hear, indeed the music we listen in our dreams. You have to live this experience!
