Pure joy. Rock N’ Roll. Riff after riff this album is so great to listen to..!
Thundermother has been through drama the last couple of years, with members being dismissed, a situation not very easy to manage for all sides, however, the Swedish band has tried to overcome any turbulence and ‘Dirty & Divine’ is the first proof following all that, and I must say, I am impressed by the result. Before I continue, I must give credit to Filippa Nässil for the following: within such a short period she gave birth, recorded and released a solo record, put together a new line-up for Thundermother, recorded and released a new band album as well. If this is not remarkable, I wonder what could be?
‘Dirty & Divine’ has all the DNA from the previous releases, but with a fresh and new sound, which solidifies the band’s name and style. Linnéa Vikström, the new vocalist, brings a new air, a different approach to the songs, but the TM feeling remains the same: full throttle rock n’ roll to bang your head till the end! This is another album from the band which you can sing along, and it has some big hits for their gigs (can’t wait to see them live!). “Speaking of the Devil” is such, and also what should be mentioned is that you should not hesitate to play this album, loud please, on your car for smaller or bigger road trips (e.g.: “I left my license in the future”). It has a fantastic groove, and it flows so easy. The whole band has done a tremendous job here, revealing their best potential for an authentic hard rock album, worth being played loud (yes, I will repeat this again). The production is nicely done, but not to the extent where the edges are too much sharpened. On the contrary, the overall sound comes out naturally and the emphasis is on the vocals and the guitars, where Filippa and Linnéa shine. Joan Massing on drums, and the returning Majsan Lindberg on bass consist of an unbeaten solid rhythm section, capable of delivering the goods and the proper foundation for the TM sound.
Highlights of the album are: “Speaking of the Devil”, “I left my license in the future”, “American Adrenaline”. ‘Dirty & Divine’ reminds us of how good this band is and how nicely and naturally they can play old school rock n’ roll. Play it loud – Enjoy it to the max!
