MAX RAEL – “SLIGHTLY LESS THAN HUMAN” (2025, SINGLE, LIQUID LEN MEDIA)

by MythofRock

Max Rael, the creative force behind UK electro-goth band History of Guns, takes a bold new direction with his latest solo single, “Slightly Less Than Human”. This is the second track released from his debut album “The Enemy Is Us”, out June 20 on Liquid Len Media—and it’s a striking example of dark, minimalist electronic music done right. From the very first beat, the song pulls you into a moody, shadowy world. The synths are cold, hypnotic, and slightly melancholic, creating a feeling of tension and isolation. There’s no singing here—just spoken word vocals that make it feel more like a haunting inner monologue than a typical song. Max Rael’s voice is calm, almost detached, as he talks about feeling different from other people and trying to understand how to “pass” as human. It’s inspired in part by Japanese author Osamu Dazai, and it definitely has that deep, introspective vibe. The lyrics are personal but also strangely relatable—many listeners will connect with that sense of being on the outside looking in. The combination of minimal synth melodies, steady beats and raw spoken word makes this track feel unique and thoughtful without being overly complex or pretentious. “Slightly Less Than Human” shows that Max Rael is not just a musician, he’s a storyteller and soundscaper with a clear vision. It’s clever, emotional and atmospheric. Fans of moody electronica, experimental vocals and introspective lyrics should absolutely give this a listen. If this track is anything to go by, “The Enemy Is Us” will be something truly special.
