German goth metallers Crematory have released their newest album, titled “Destination”, via Rock Of Angels Records. With a lengthy discography, reaching back all the way to 1991, which is also the year they were formed, it is evident that Crematory have solidified their name in the scene, hence the expectations were high, and they were definitely met. Having only heard the band once or twice before, it was a new experience, sitting down to give them a proper listen. With a total runtime of almost 54 minutes and 12 songs, this album was bound to be a trip. We begin with the same-titled track, “Destination”, a five-minute beautiful rollercoaster. As the album goes on, the intricate guitar work and vocals are gorgeous, giving the creation an edge. Another highlight is Crematory’s cover of one of my personal favourite tracks from Type O Negative, “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”, which is an interesting twist to the original track that was a very pleasant surprise to hear. We continue and each track is different, different textures and landscapes come in mind as we go on. Crematory in my opinion bring the industrial vibe while still managing to put new ideas in their compositions. The album is a solid entry in Crematory’s discography, blending their signature gothic metal sound with fresh, modern elements. While not reinventing the genre, the album delivers enough emotion, heaviness and atmosphere to satisfy longtime fans and curious newcomers alike. With its dark melodies and punchy rhythms, the albums proves Crematory still has plenty to offer and remains a relevant force in the gothic metal scene.
