The first official trailer for “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues”, the sequel to the iconic mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap”, is available now.
Bleecker Street has announced that “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues” will hit theaters on September 12. The highly anticipated sequel brings back director Rob Reiner alongside Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer, who reprise their iconic roles as the legendary heavy metal band SPINAL TAP.
The indie studio, founded by Andrew Karpen in 2014, has also acquired the rights to the original “This Is Spinal Tap”. The classic film has been newly restored and returned to theaters earlier this summer. It’s now also available on digital and streaming platforms — marking the first time in years that fans can access the film digitally.
Rob Reiner is back as director and writer, joined once again by original stars and co-writers Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer, who reprise their iconic roles as Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, and Derek Smalls. Reiner also returns as the band’s long-suffering documentarian, Martin “Marty” DiBergi.
In the sequel, SPINAL TAP comes back together after a 15-year break to play one final show in New Orleans — a gig they were added to after Stormy Daniels pulled out. The film also features cameo appearances from music legends Elton John and Paul McCartney.
The “Spinal Tap” sequel also brings back Fran Drescher, reprising her role as the band’s publicist, Bobbi Flekman, from the original 1984 classic. Joining the cast this time are several new faces, including John Michael Higgins, Jason Acuña, Don Lake, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman, Chris Addison, Brad Williams, and musician Paul Shaffer.
