Inspired by post-punk legends like The Chameleons and The Cure, Vision Video offer us the single “Let Go of Time”, off their new album, “Modern Horror”. “Let Go of Time” is a song, which proves that today good post-punk/gothic rock music is still crafted. As always, Vision Video combine nostalgia with contemporary freshness in an emotionally charged song, which has a great refrain – however, apart from the catchy vocal lines, this single is a compelling exhibition of heartfelt musicianship. There are several layers of gentle synths, melancholic guitar harmonies and a pale rhythm section, which all are in service of the atmospheric melodies. It’s nostalgic, it’s hypnotic, it’s dreamy. Dusty Gannon’s haunting, vulnerable vocals draw into the introspective world of the song. And Emily Fredock’s on keyboards and backing vocals add to the ethereal element of the song, enhancing its dreamlike quality. How not to be engaged throughout, when there is so much fragileness and psyche in every note of this composition. The production is polished yet retains a raw edge that suits the band’s aesthetic. To sum up, with this song Vision Video injects a sense of hope and resilience to an often dated genre. “Let Go of Time” is a beacon for the future of post-punk!
