Athenian post black/doom metallers Euphrosyne are set to release their first full-length album, “Morus”, on March 21st via Black Lion Records and we had the pleasure of hearing it in its entirety. This creation is, as they have stated, extremely personal to the band and deals with a band member’s family death and the feelings and journey to the Asphodel Meadows. Knowing this, it is with a heavy heart, after hearing their single “Mitera”, that I pressed play to proceed. I would like to extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt congratulations for being able to turn the pain into a beautifully ominous piece of art. Having viewed Euphrosyne’ s set at Moni Lazariston opening for the giants Rotting Christ, I came into this record with high standards and I must say that they were met or even exceeded. The atmosphere, the emotion and Efi’s vocals were truly a haunting, heartbreaking mix of a descent. Morus is a journey. A trip to be taken solemnly and with great respect. It’s dark yet ethereal, breathtaking yet slow. The emotions this creation conveys are truly one of a kind. I must admit that this is my most recent favorite album to listen to. Euphrosyne did it again, and they are here to stay. I look forward to their next creations, as this album is truly admirable.
