Typhus is a band that has been very active on stage in recent years, winning over many fans with their speed/thrash metal sound — as they did recently at the Rockwave Festival. And now they’re back with the follow-up to their debut “Mass Produced Perfection”, titled “Fate Weaver”, an album that’s sure to stir reactions. Why? Because it’s clear that Typhus is making a bold musical shift! Yes, they’re moving away from speed/thrash metal and heading toward a more melodic, slower and punchier classic heavy metal sound! I was surprised when I first listened to the record — but it was a good surprise! On this new path, Typhus truly shines. They’ve taken a daring step by slowing things down and infusing their metal with strong melodies, managing to create a very interesting, fresh and powerful album that impresses with its wild melodicism and rich, old-school heavy metal elements. The work on the high-pitched vocals is outstanding — they are cleverly arranged, multi-layered and arguably the most important “instrument” in the Typhus sound. Sure, every musician gives 1000%, but it’s the vocal performances that will draw listeners in — and is it just me, or do they sound a lot like Andy B. Franck from Brainstorm?! Killer riffs, great solos, solid rhythms, a dark atmosphere, and a true musical vision — these are the defining traits of “Fate Weaver”, an album that will leave many people speechless. Beyond the stylistic discussion, the record is packed with great themes, catchy ideas and real depth — the more you listen to the new Typhus songs, the more you enjoy them and discover new details. We welcome the renewed and determined Typhus, who return with a fantastic new album that redefines the Greek band’s place on the global heavy metal map. And now, we definitely have one more great reason to catch Typhus live again!
