Restless Mosaic’s latest single, “Lost Within This Time”, featuring the ethereal vocals of Anji Bee (of Lovespirals), is an unsettling yet mesmerizing journey through sound and emotion. As the first preview of his upcoming third album Quality Mirrors (out March 7), this track offers a dark, immersive listening experience that blurs the lines between ambient electronic, experimental sound design, synthpop and dreampop. At the core of “Lost Within This Time” is an eerie, claustrophobic atmosphere that gradually unfolds, pulling the listener into a world that feels distorted. The song’s foundation is built on manipulated elevator samples, which serve as a disorienting backdrop—mechanical hums, metallic echoes, and shifting frequencies layer upon one another to create a space that feels suspended between dimensions. Rather than settling into a predictable rhythm, the track shifts unpredictably, moving through sonic textures that keep the listener on edge. There is also an 80s feeling in the song as well as a video games music influence. Together with the synths, Anji Bee’s vocal performance is a highlight. She brings a ghostly quality to the song, her voice floats above the mechanical and percussive elements, acting as both a guide and a prisoner within the track’s labyrinth. The production is meticulous, with every sonic element carefully placed to maximize disorientation and emotional weight. The use of found sounds, industrial undertones, and fluid, evolving arrangements ensures that “Lost Within This Time” is never static. Just as the listener begins to grasp a melody or motif, it slips away, replaced by something even more abstract and unexpected. “Lost Within This Time” is not an easy listen, nor is it meant to be. It’s a song that demands attention, absorbing the listener into its layered and enigmatic depths. As a first glimpse into “Quality Mirrors”, it promises an album that will challenge and captivate in equal measure. Restless Mosaic has crafted something truly intriguing.
