Crafted under the shadow of the Russian war, Mortui Vultus from Ukraine offer us a gem of post black metal. Search their case and you will find a rare, beautiful combination of post black metal, blackgaze, screamo, post rock and post metal. Indeed, “Distant Echoes” is a unique album of extreme metal music, which makes a strong impact on the listener. What made me lose my breath was the wide range of emotions of these songs – the emotions that Mortui Vultus express through their music and the emotions that their songs bring to the listeners. The album’s music is so emotive and atmospheric and will touch your heart and soul. The five songs of the album wil send shivers down your spine and make you feel. It is a great opus from some guys, who live war and all its consequences, from some guys, who have so many things to express and do that with their precious music. You will find here their fear, anger, sorrow and hope, all so brilliantly delivered! We are talking about priceless music creations, which talk to the soul and conquer everything. Mortui Vultus refer to all the existential issues with their music and lyrics and make a miracle with “Distant Echoes”. With such a fantastic debut album, these Ukrainians win our approval and attention and promise great things for the future.
