MESSINESS – “FATALLY” (2025, SINGLE, TARLA/STONEFREE)

by MythofRock

Messiness takes a bold and emotional step forward with their new single “Fatally” — a beautiful, melancholic Britpop-inspired track that hits deep. Wrapped in jangly guitars and golden-hour melodies, the song dives into the painful, honest world of addiction and the struggle to break free from it. Written by frontman Max Raffa in Liverpool after a real-life conversation at the pub, “Fatally” feels raw and personal. It’s about going in circles — the promise of recovery, the pull of relapse, and the feeling of being stuck in time while the world keeps spinning. There’s a sadness running through the lyrics, but it’s the kind that feels familiar to anyone who’s ever felt lost or left behind. Musically, “Fatally” is a gorgeous mix of shimmering guitar lines, vintage keys and spacey textures. Think early Oasis or The Verve mixed with a touch of 60s psychedelia and some modern art-pop flair. There’s also a dreamlike quality in the production, like a warm sunset glowing over a life in ruins. It’s catchy, emotional, and beautifully arranged — a bittersweet, nostalgic anthem for the broken. Max Raffa delivers the vocals with honesty and heart, while his bandmates — Rosario Lo Monaco (guitars), Filippo La Marca (keyboards), Giovanni Calella (bass), and Luca Anello (drums) — bring the perfect amount of color and texture to the mix. You can feel the care and craft in every note. “Fatally” doesn’t try to fix anything. It just tells the truth. And sometimes, that’s more powerful than anything else. A standout track from a band that’s clearly headed somewhere special.
