Ganzi Gun, one of the best hard/heavy rock bands that Greece is exporting, is coming to the spotlight again, after the release of its single, “Aggressive Response” – the Athenian band is going to hit the stage of Temple in a few days, in the context of Angels Summer Fest Vol. 1. As the day is approaching, Myth of Rock sat down and had a nice chat with the band – you can read all their to-the-point, precise and interesting answers, right below!
by Dimitris Zacharopoulos
When, where, by whom and under which circumstances was Ganzi Gun formed?
Ganzi Gun came together in Athens back in 2011, founded by Manolis and What began as a cover band quickly turned into a creative outlet for original music.
Why did you decide to name the band Ganzi Gun?
We came across the phrase Ganzi Ganu in a book — in ancient Assyrian, it supposedly means ‘medicine for the mind’. We tweaked it a bit, made it our own, and that’s how Ganzi Gun was born.
How would you describe your music style?
We call it modern hard rock. We love the melody of ‘80s hard rock, and we’re into heavy riffs — so blending the two just comes naturally to us.
Which are your main music influences?
Bands like Shinedown, Seether, Alter Bridge, Metallica, Godsmack. Powerful, emotional, and riff-driven rock.
Which do you think are the trademarks of Ganzi Gun?
We believe our trademark is mixing the melody of classic hard rock with the heavy edge of modern metal.
Can you present to us your official releases until now?
We’ve released two full albums — “Welcome to the Show” (2015) and “Time Is Now”(2020). Our latest release is the single “Aggressive Response” (2025)
Where do your lyrics refer to?
We have lyrics for every occasion — from party hard vibes to personal struggles, self- awareness, emotional battles, and the darker sides of modern life.
Who is the one who composes the music and writes the lyrics in Ganzi Gun? How is a typical Ganzi Gun song composed?
It’s a collaborative process. One of us usually brings a riff or a vocal idea, and we build around it in rehearsal. Lyrics often come last, shaped by the emotion of the music.
Your latest release was the single “Aggressive Response”. How do you see this song now?
It feels like a new chapter. More aggressive, darker, and more refined. It sets the tone for what’s coming next.
Which are your ambitions for Ganzi Gun?
To keep evolving our sound, reach wider audiences, and take our live show to more stages — including outside of Greece.
If you could record a Ganzi Gun song with a favorite musician of yours, whom would you choose?
It’s hard to pick just one! I think each of us would choose a personal hero, so names like James Hetfield, Angus Young, Jon Bon Jovi, Hansi Kürsch, and Steve Harris cover all of us.
How do you see things for rock/metal music in Greece?
The scene has grown a lot in recent years. Besides the big festivals, there are now many more live shows by smaller bands like us. Plus, social media makes it easier to promote gigs. Also, more big international bands are coming to Greece compared to before.
What would you choose: vintage or modern? And analog or digital?
Modern, with vintage soul. And digital for practicality, but analog for character — best of both worlds.
What do you think about the use of AI in music?
Human emotion still matters most. So far AI cannot touch these areas. We are safe — for now haha.
Many years have passed since your latest album (“Time Is Now”). Why is that?
Life happened — lockdowns, personal shifts, but also a need to find a new sound. We didn’t want to rush it.
Have you written any new songs? If yes, how do they sound? When should we expect your next release?
Yes! New songs are more modern, maybe heavier… People will judge. We’re aiming full album within the next few months.
You have played many live shows until now. How much important are live shows for you?
It’s always a special moment. At that time, all of us on stage are completely focused on the music. If that energy manages to reach the audience, it gives us an extra boost. It’s a beautiful feeling.
You are going to play in Angels Summer Fest in a few days. How do you feel about that? What should we expect from you?
We’re really looking forward to hitting the stage and giving it our all! Expect a few surprises too!
