FINI TRIBE – “WE’RE INTERESTED” (2025, SINGLE, SHIPWRECKED INDUSTRIES)

by MythofRock

With the reissue collection “The Sheer Action of Fini Tribe: 1982–1987” on the way, Fini Tribe have brought back one of their most defining early songs, “We’re Interested”. First recorded for their John Peel Session in 1985, the track now returns with a lyric video that highlights its timeless character and emotional depth. The song begins with John Vick’s gentle, haunting piano melody — a line that immediately sets a tone of longing and atmosphere. From there, the band builds carefully, weaving in layers of sound that carry both melancholy and a surprising touch of pop accessibility. Chris Connelly’s vocals sound distant yet intimate, like a voice echoing from the streets of Edinburgh, which is fitting since the band always said the song is Edinburgh. You can almost feel the damp stone, the hidden lanes, the green spaces, and the history of the city in its notes… What makes “We’re Interested” so powerful, even forty years later, is how understated it is. There’s no rush, no need to show off. The song breathes. It carries sadness, but not despair — more like reflection, a remembering of places, friends and fleeting moments. The lyric video adds to this by presenting the words in a way that lets the listener focus on the poetry while being swept up in the music. It’s easy to see why this became a live favourite and why it still resonates today. “We’re Interested” isn’t only a song; it’s a mood, a place, a memory frozen in time. A perfect preview of the coming anthology.
