Italian heavy/doom (horror themed) metal band Deathless Legacy release their seventh full length album, titled “Damnatio Aeterna”. Deathless Legacy (having started as a Death SS tribute band back in 2006) have influences from a lot of styles, which I am familiar with, thus that gave me an idea of what I was about to hear. I must note that although the influences are clear, Deathless Legacy have managed to carve their own personal style and touches, which is a very pleasant surpise. Delving deeper into the themes of the album, I discovered that it revolves around a demon, named Malchrum, who the devil provokes to ensnare a priest , who in turn will be eternally damned. Very well structured story in my opinion. Moving onto the tracks, eleven ones are included, with the title track taking the lead. A noteworthy touch is singer Steva’s dark yet sultry delivery and mesmerizing voice. Piano is evident all through the record, but in the first track, I feel it shines, with the dramatic, chanted vocals, making it feel epic, yet haunting. A personal favourite of mine is track three, “Communion”. The organ included in the beginning is otherworldly and makes you feel as if you’re on the said journey the album describes. Overall, all tracks are unique, each one taking its own macabre shape. This creation was unique and commanding, Deathless Legacy for sure has a lot to offer.
