New Long Fest is back for another explosive year, once again taking over Nea Makri with its powerful lineup and electrifying atmosphere. Among the festival’s highlights for 2025 is Vulcan Itch, the renowned heavy rock force known for their raw energy and killer riffs. Myth of Rock had the chance to sit down with the band for a fascinating and spirited conversation – dive into the interview below!
by Dimitris Zacharopoulos
When, where, by whom and under which circumstances were you formed?
We formed in Athens, Greece, back in 2018 — in a rehearsal room that smelled like sweat, worry, and mismatched cables. It started as collective therapy and slowly morphed into something that actually wanted to be heard.
How did you select your band name?
It was Spydas’ idea. He threw it out there—half joke, half prophecy—and we all agreed immediately. It was weird, a bit sci-fi, jittery—and perfect.
Have you any got official releases? If yes, can you give us all the info about these releases?
Absolutely. Here’s the rundown:
- “The Vulcan Itch” (2020) – debut full-length
- “Trapped in a Cage” EP (2022) – five tracks
- “Rise of the Fallen” (Mar 28, 2024 via The Lab Records) – second album
- Single “Out Of My Head” (Feb 2025)
How would you define your music style? Which are your main music influences?
Groove-driven alt-rock with noise, punk, stoner, and grunge edges. Think powerful riffs, intense energy, hooks that stick. Influences: Queens of the Stone Age, Cave In, Alice in Chains, Helmet and post‑punk/industrial textures .
Who are the ones who write your music and lyrics? How is usually a song of yours written?
We start with a riff, a feeling, or a beat. Lyrics come later—Spy Das usually crafts them. The rest of us shape the song around that core. It’s democratic but messy—and that tension gives it life.
Where do your lyrics refer to? Do you try to convey any messages through your songs?
They’re emotional scans of anxiety, freedom, pressure, and internal struggle. Stories that resonate more than preach. You choose how deep you dive.
How would you describe the Greek rock/metal music scene?
It’s gritty, talented, and under-resourced. Still passionate, still fighting. We’re happy to be part of it—even if it sometimes feels like pushing a boulder uphill.
How do you make band decisions (as a band or is there a leader)?
All decisions are collective. We discuss, sometimes argue, and always reach consensus. No egos, no dictators—just a team aiming in the same direction.
Which are your band ambitions and goals?
More music, more tours, better shows, bigger risks. We want to carve out our own corner—and build a fanbase that lives and breathes our lyrics.
Digital or analog? Vintage or modern? What do you prefer?
We blend both worlds. Vintage tone meets modern workflow. Tube amps and USB interfaces—a perfect combo.
How important are live shows/concerts for you? Which are the characteristics of your live performances?
Essential. That’s where music becomes real. We bring intensity, sweat, and honesty. No choreography—just raw energy and connection.
You are participating in New Long Festival 2025! Which are your feelings about it?
Hyped and grateful. New Long Fest is one of the rare events in Greece with genuine support for heavier sounds. We’re ready to deliver a set that sticks in people’s heads—and spines.
