Three years after their second album, “Master of War”, Steel Arctus return with their third full length album, “Dreamruler”, a heavy/epic/power metal variety of compositions, filled with crushing guitar and bass riffs, relentless drumming, face-melting solos and astounding vocal melodies that I don’t seem to get out of my head. In this album the Greek metal band, known for their anthemic and headbanging songs, brew a mix of ripping heavy tracks and beautiful melodic ballads to deliver a musical package, which exceeds beyond the expectations of the Greek heavy metal scene and has nothing to envy from the other international bands of the genre. Steel Arctus captures the classic metal sound of the 80s infusing it with a modern, razor-sharp production that rivals the output of legendary international labels. The album manages to bridge the gap between the mythic storytelling of early Manowar and the well-polished, soaring hooks of Queensrÿche and Judas Priest. Yet it remains distinctly Hellenic in its fiery passion. Opposing the heavier side of the album even in their softer moments, the band stays powerful. Steel Arctus do not disappoint, including melodic ballads and shimmering clean intros that show off their range, mixing soulful melodies with a dark atmosphere and intros that build tension before the distortion takes over again and reclaims the tracks. As such, “Dreamruler” is a powerful heavy metal musical journey that will satisfy any fan of the heavy/epic/power metal genre. Personally, I’m already anticipating to hear what they will release next.
