A decade ago, Mick Jones, founding guitarist of FOREIGNER, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Despite the challenges that followed, he remained committed to the stage, continuing to tour and drawing strength from the connection with fans worldwide. However, as the disease progressed, it became increasingly difficult for him to perform live, and two years ago, he was forced to step away from the stage—a profound and deeply personal loss for an artist whose life has always been anchored in music.
Yet, through the creation of his new song, “Shelter From The Storm,” Jones discovered a renewed sense of purpose. The track became a creative lifeline, allowing him to reconnect with his musical spirit and regain a sense of normalcy amidst the challenges of his condition.
In recognition of Parkinson’s Awareness Month this April, Mick Jones has partnered with The Michael J. Fox Foundation to raise both awareness and vital funding for Parkinson’s research. On April 26, “Shelter From The Storm” will make its debut during the Foundation’s annual Parkinson’s Unity Walk in Central Park, New York City — a powerful day of solidarity, action, and hope that brings together thousands of individuals and families affected by the disease. Mick Jones is also set to make a personal appearance at the event, underscoring his commitment to the cause and to those living with Parkinson’s.
