Marilyn Manson has officially released his long-awaited twelfth album. “One Assassination Under God (Chapter 1)” feels like a fresh approach from Marilyn Manson, but one that stays true to his roots. His industrial, distorted-like sound is present all throughout the record, giving the listener a glimpse of reminiscing on the past. The atmosphere remains unyielding as the artist rasps out his story through lyrics. After all, that is what he had to say about the album himself: “These songs were conjured from purgatory, and are as raw as a row of broken teeth that slightly resemble a smile”. I would say he succeeded at this, as the record is surely to be a hit for industrial listeners and Marilyn Manson fanatics alike. The sense of nostalgia is definitely strong with this album. My personal favorite is the third in the row song, called “Nod If You Understand”, as its gloom overtakes you and immerses you into the artist’s world. A fine release by this legendary artist.
