MYLES KENNEDY – “THE ART OF LETTING GO” (2024, NAPALM RECORDS)

by Antonis Mantzavinos

Myles Kennedy needs no special introduction.
An artist with a career span and huge success (already), that would be desired by so many out there (Alter Bridge, Slash, collaborations with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Jason Bonham – even if the latter did not lead to a tour, and others as well), is trying to establish himself as a solo artist, without any taboos or barriers on the music he creates. To the contrary, we have seen him having already released 2 solo albums, with different influences and varied styles. An ever creating, never resting soul who creates fine music and breaks new grounds, pushing himself every time, taking different paths.

His latest album “The Art of letting go” solidifies his musicianship and shows how cool and comfortable he is, not only with his voice but also handling the guitars (something we knew very well of course), playing some heavy and cool riffs, writing interesting and laid back songs, in a compact and very well crafted album. Both the artist and the album do not intend at all to show off, but they stick to the music, with an excellent tone and instrumentation throughout the record, where the production truly reveals all the best qualities of him, again, I will repeat it: both as a singer and a guitarist. The songs vary within themselves from melodic to more groovy and heavy, creating an intriguing layer and a trademark of how modern hard rock is (or should be) played.

“The Art of letting go” exemplifies what an artist can achieve, when sticking to the point and to the essence of the music, while at the same being mature, challenging with himself and speaking directly to the listener. This album is a fresh eye, a heavy but also mellow approach to contemporary rock music, from a musician who does not rest his mind but has already impressed us with his 3rd solo album and paves the way for great things to follow.

Highlights of the record are: ‘Miss You When You’re Gone’, ‘Behind The Veil’, ‘Eternal Lullaby’ and ‘How the story ends’.
