Lowsunday return with “This Is Not Heaven”, a single off their new release, the “Low Sunday Ghost Machine – Black EP”, and you feel like they never really left us. After more than two decades of inactivity and silence, the Pittsburgh duo sound refreshed, inspired and modern, while still holding tightly to the dreamy identity that made them special in the first place. The track immediately pulls you into its dark atmosphere. There is a cold quality in the opening moments, with layers of guitar effects creating that classic shoegaze haze, but there is also something sharper underneath: the bassline drives the song forward with purpose, while the synths give the chorus a cinematic weight. It feels nostalgic, but not dated. It is melancholic, but you will discover a strange brightness inside the sadness, especially when the chorus opens up. That contrast gives the track real emotional depth. Nothing feels forced or overproduced. Shane Sahene’s vocals fit perfectly into the mix. They are soft and distant enough to blend into the atmosphere, yet clear enough to carry the emotion of the lyrics. The guitar work is another big highlight. The asymmetrical lead parts create tension, the same time that the melodic rhythm section keeps everything grounded and memorable. There is a confidence here that only comes from a band who truly know their sound. Lowsunday are not chasing trends or trying to recreate the past. They are simply building on what they always did well and proving that their craft still matters in 2026. I am sure we will all be excited with the content of the full EP!
