HAMMERFALL – “AVENGE THE FALLEN” (2024, NUCLEAR BLAST)

by MythofRock

“Avenge the Fallen” is the latest work of the mighty Hammerfall, one of the best and most reliable groups of classic metal of the last decades. I am a fan of the Swedish band, and this album is just like coming from the sky for me. It has the proud signature of Joacim Cans and co., however, I don’t think that this is a disc, which will gather new fans for the band. It has good songs in it, some of them could be great for the upcoming live shows, yet, I believe that this long player has nothing more to offer, both to the genre and the band itself. Die hard fans will have a really nice time with songs like the same-titled one, “Hail to the King”, “Hope Springs Eternal”, “Rise of Evil” etc., and that’s it! So, you could say that I wasn’t as satisfied as I expected to be. Music wise, Hammerfall continue in their traditional, classic metal style, and have again as trademarks Cans’ voice and the melodic guitar riffs and solos. As far as the production is concerned, you could say that the sound could be a little more complex and heavy, that’s my opinion though. In the year 2024, albums like “Avenge the Fallen” show that metal is still alive and that the flame still burns. We shall appreciate what bands like Hammerfall are giving us and be grateful that they continue to write some brilliant heavy metal anthems! Let the hammer fall and … thumbs up!
