Legendary Deep Purple bassist and vocalist, as well as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Glenn Hughes, has officially announced that he is retiring from touring and live performances.
Following medical advice from his doctor, Glenn Hughes, who will celebrate his 75th birthday later this month, is set to undergo heart surgery. As a result, he has made the difficult decision to step away from touring and live performances for the foreseeable future.
Glenn comments: “This past year, I’ve had some health issues. The results from numerous MRIs, CT scans and an echocardiogram have alerted my medical team that I need another open-heart surgery. I really have no option and no choice as health is my number one priority. Grateful to have been chosen with a life full with the gift of music… Thank you for walking beside me”.
Glenn Hughes’s final live appearance took place on May 30, 2026, at the iconic Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Illinois, where he reunited with The Dead Daisies for a special one-off performance. Appearing under The Purple Daisies banner alongside Doug Aldrich, Tommy Clufetos, and David Lowy, the band delivered a unique set divided between 10 of The Dead Daisies’ signature songs and a collection of classic Deep Purple anthems.
Following the overwhelming response to the sold-out St. Charles show, The Purple Daisies announced a second performance scheduled for October 2, 2026, at The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California. However, in light of Glenn Hughes’s decision to retire from live performances, the concert has since been canceled.
