Athenian modern heavy rock/metal powerhouse Degenerate Mind has released their new album titled “Vortex” and it’s a banger. The quintet has published their second to date creation, mixing up their classic/melodic metal, alternative and rock n’ roll roots. We kick off with “In a Golden Cage”, a five-minute, high-energy, drum-driven song, a very strong start that’s sure to get your head banging. Vortex is showing us its colors. Next we have intricate riffs and vocal lines, which adorn and perfect the tracks. Although perfectly blended, they are diverse and infectious, with each track making you feel something completely different than the one before it. Μy personal favorite of the album is the fifth song in the tracklist, titled “Day Zero”. The band’s exceptional ability to offer at the same time nicely done ballads and mind numbing riffs is a standout. Degenerate Mind play wise and the results are extremely smart, with tricky transitions and vocals that are perfectly tailored, emotional yet passionate. Lyrically, Vortex delves into ideas of transcendence, a “trip from death to life” as the band themselves like to name it. Fortunately Degenerate Mind has definitely found their signature style and its result, “Vortex”, is a must for every modern heavy rock/metal listener.
