CELESTE CORSANO – “XS” (2025, SINGLE, MAGIC DOOR)

by MythofRock

Alternative pop artist Celeste Corsano is a synonym of artistic grace and quality. And with her new single, “XS”, she takes a brave look at the modern obsession with perfection. The title itself plays on the double meaning of “extra small” and “excess”, cleverly connecting body image and society’s endless chase for success. Produced by Ray Ketchem (Guided by Voices, Luna, Gramercy Arms) and featuring James Mastro on guitar and David Nagler on bass, the song shines both musically and emotionally. Corsano’s voice floats delicately over a soundscape that feels vintage yet fresh — somewhere between Kate Bush’s dreamlike drama and The Cars’ sleek pop edge. The warm analogue production makes the song feel alive, balancing synths, drums and guitars in a smooth, hypnotic flow. There’s an underlying melancholy, but also a strange sense of release — as if Corsano is freeing herself from the mirror’s reflection she’s been trapped in. As far as the lyrics are concerned, “XS” explores insecurity, comparison and the illusion of “having it all”. Corsano questions what it really means to reach the “perfect spot of happiness”, only to realize how fragile and fleeting it is. It’s honest and relatable, speaking directly to anyone who has ever felt the pressure to be flawless. The accompanying animated video by Brother JT expands the message beautifully, ending with a symbolic transformation where the woman becomes a deer and runs into the forest — a metaphor for self-acceptance and freedom. With “XS”, Celeste Corsano continues to prove she’s a rare voice in alternative pop — thoughtful, poetic, vulnerable. It’s a haunting and deeply human song that stays with you long after it fades out.
