To be completely honest, I’m not the biggest fan of post rock/metal. However, “In Your Absence” is a different case altogether. The new album by we.own.the.sky is outstanding, filled with beautiful, well-crafted post rock/metal compositions that also incorporate plenty of progressive and electronic elements. The Athens-based band doesn’t use lyrics in their songs—they don’t need them. Their music speaks for itself and communicates so many powerful and meaningful things. Key elements of this new release are the enthusiastic guitar riffs, the characteristic breakdowns, the unique atmosphere in which the songs are immersed, and the emotion that seems to drown every single note. The defining difference between “In Your Absence” and many other albums of the genre lies in its hooks. Here you’ll find an abundance of melodic lines that captivate the listener and lead them into a state of euphoria. As a result, there isn’t a single dull moment on this new we.own.the.sky album, which is packed with a rich quantity and variety of strong ideas. Everything points to just how mature the band has become as songwriters, brimming with inspiration and imagination. In this way, In Your Absence transforms into an instrumental masterpiece—beautifully standing on its own and clearly rising above other albums of the genre. With their new album, we.own.the.sky captivate and magnetically attract every listener who appreciates melody, atmosphere and emotion in music. “In Your Absence” is an album that tries to leave its mark and finally achieves that with great success. One of the rare cases in recent years of a wordless album that says so much, and says it so powerfully.
