TONY IOMMI: ANNOUNCED NEW ALBUM (“FROM THE DARK”)

by MythofRock

BMG has announced the worldwide release of “From The Dark”, the brand-new solo album from legendary guitarist Tony Iommi. The announcement arrives alongside the premiere of the album’s first single, “World Alone”, which debuted this afternoon during a special global streaming event held in Iommi’s hometown of Birmingham, England. The event took place just steps away from the iconic Black Sabbath Bridge, the canal-side landmark unveiled in 2019 as a civic tribute to the pioneering heavy metal band.

“World Alone” is a hard-hitting rock anthem driven by a relentless barrage of razor-sharp guitar riffs and soaring solos, underpinned by a thunderous rhythm section and elevated by the commanding, operatic vocals of acclaimed Norwegian singer Jorn Lande. Accompanying the track is a cinematic music video set in a retro-futuristic dystopian world, where the central character, known as The Believer, is thrust into a dark, twisted video game, embarking on a perilous journey to survive and ultimately find redemption.

On “From The Dark”, Tony Iommi is joined by acclaimed vocalist Jorn Lande, who also co-wrote every track on the album, alongside bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil. Co-produced by Iommi and his longtime collaborator Mike Exeter—who also served as co-writer, producer and audio engineer—the album boasts a powerful, crystal-clear production that blends modern sonic depth with a timeless rock spirit, creating an immersive listening experience from start to finish.

Iommi says: “It’s an album we’ve really enjoyed making. We’re not trying to prove anything — it’s a great album, it rocks!”.

From the very first moments of “Over The Violent Sun”, featuring Tony Iommi’s unmistakable, down-tuned guitar work and Jorn Lande’s commanding, dramatic vocals, it becomes evident that “From The Dark” is a remarkable addition to the guitarist’s celebrated body of work. The momentum continues with “Black Times”, a fierce and uncompromising track that hits with full force, followed by the explosive lead single “World Alone”. The album then shifts direction with “Beyond The Dead”, where a dark, majestic riff combines with sweeping orchestral elements to create a grand and haunting atmosphere.

The album is steeped in existential themes, with Jorn Lande’s lyrics exploring dystopian visions and reflecting on the fragile, transient nature of human existence. This perspective is particularly evident on “Stormwatcher”, where nautical imagery and visions of distant horizons create a powerful sense of searching and uncertainty. Standing as one of the album’s defining moments, “Stormwatcher” is followed by the equally dramatic “Death Wake”, with both tracks combining evocative songwriting and powerful musicianship to portray the harsh realities of a world stripped of love, compassion, and humanity.

The closing pair of tracks on “From The Dark” perfectly encapsulate the album’s immense range, from the fierce intensity and raw emotion of “Return Of The Arbalist” to the sweeping, epic grandeur of “Legacy”. Together, they highlight the contrast between power and subtlety, darkness and light, that defines the record as a whole. Arriving one year after BLACK SABBATH’s final performance at the 2025 “Back To The Beginning” concert in Birmingham, the album serves as a testament to the enduring creativity and inspiration of Tony Iommi, proving that his artistic fire continues to burn brighter than ever. “From The Dark” stands as a monumental rock release and one of the year’s most impressive albums.
