THE WESTERN FRONT: ’80S PROJECT RELEASES ITS NEW SINGLE (“RAIN”)

by MythofRock

The Western Front have unveiled their latest single, “Rain”, lifted from their long-awaited and almost mythical album “Eureka”, set for release on July 10 via Music Theories Recordings / Artone Label Group.

The Western Front was brought to life by an impressive lineup of rock heavyweights, including Scott Gorham (Thin Lizzy, Black Star Riders), Marty Walsh (Supertramp, John Fogerty), and Darrell Verdusco (Mark Knopfler, Van Morrison), alongside renowned session musicians Richard ‘Moon’ Calhoun (Chaka Khan, Andy Gibb) and Derek Bergmann (Yvonne Elliman, Jeff Barry), as well as guitarist and longtime collaborator Dennis O’Donnell, a respected veteran of the music industry.

Talking about “Rain”, Bergmann recalls: “It wasn’t easy to record that one. I remember that day in the studio. It was like, ‘Man, I can’t come up with a part that makes any sense in this song’, because it was just so guitar-heavy at that point. But I’m happy with where we got it. The intro is guitar and synth, and I’m playing this really gnarly, dissonant part on a Jupiter-8.”

“Rain” arrives as the follow-up to “Set Me Free”, the first track unveiled from the album.

Four decades later, the story of early-’80s rock may seem firmly written into history. But what if an entire chapter had been left untold? What if there existed a lost great band worthy of standing alongside the era’s biggest names — and a timeless classic album heard only by the musicians who created it, including some of the West Coast’s finest session players and Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy?

The story behind “Eureka” — finally seeing the light of day on July 10, 2026, nearly 40 years after it was first captured on tape — is one of unwavering faith in the face of impossible odds. There were moments when it seemed these twelve remarkable songs would be lost forever, dismissed as little more than a record-label casualty or left to decay as forgotten two-inch master tapes gathering dust in a California garage.

Now, at long last, the recovery of this buried treasure stands as a long-overdue triumph — unveiling a “new” band to the world, bringing to light timeless songwriting that still pulses with energy, and perhaps even challenging the established order of rock’s greatest decade.
