The Rolling Stones have officially announced their long-awaited new studio album, “Foreign Tongues”, set for release on July 10 via Capitol Records. The 14-track record arrives less than three years after the globally celebrated, Grammy Award-winning “Hackney Diamonds”, which dominated charts worldwide and reached multi-platinum status.
The album will be previewed with the energetic and catchy lead single “In The Stars”, released digitally on May 5 alongside the opening track “Rough And Twisted”, while a physical version of the single will follow on May 15. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood are also scheduled to appear at a media launch event for “Foreign Tongues” later today in Brooklyn, New York.
In the build-up to the announcement, The Rolling Stones quietly stirred anticipation around the project, even dropping a limited white-label vinyl of “Rough And Twisted” under the alias The Cockroaches. Passing from hand to hand among fans and collectors, the release quickly fueled speculation about the direction and sound of “Foreign Tongues”, hinting at a raw and exploratory edge.
The album itself came together during a particularly inspired creative stretch, recorded in under a month at Metropolis Studios in West London. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood teamed up once again with Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt, the same force behind “Hackney Diamonds”. The end result is a vibrant, forward-thinking album that stays true to the band’s signature sound while pushing into fresh sonic and lyrical territory, further reinforcing their untouchable legacy.
The album showcases standout performances from Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, alongside key collaborators such as Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford and Steve Jordan. It also features a special contribution from Charlie Watts, drawn from one of his final recording sessions before his passing in 2021.
Further elevating the record is a strong lineup of guest appearances, including Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith and Chad Smith.
Reflecting on the recordings, Jagger said: “I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis. It was a very intense few weeks recording ‘Foreign Tongues’. We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could. I like the room there as it’s not too big so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone.”
Richards added: “The ‘Foreign Tongues’ album has a continuity from ‘Hackney Diamonds’ and it was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us. It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”
Wood commented: “The atmosphere in the room was so creative, and the whole band was on top form throughout the whole process. Very often we nailed it on the first take. I hope everyone loves it.”
The album’s striking cover artwork features a painting by acclaimed American artist Nathaniel Mary Quinn, who commented: “Creating the album cover for THE ROLLING STONES is an artistic honour — a dialogue with one of the most enduring forces in cultural history”.
“Foreign Tongues” will be released across a broad range of formats, including standard CD, deluxe CD editions, cassette, and multiple vinyl versions—featuring both standard and limited coloured pressings—alongside exclusive retailer editions and special box sets. The lead single “In The Stars” will also be available on both CD and vinyl.
