Debut album from the Swedes, steeped in a sword and sorcery atmosphere, and one that definitely shows promise! The intro sets the mood from the very first moment, hinting at what is about to follow… dark, powerful, nostalgic, pure heavy metal! The epic element dominates throughout (after all, you already get a first taste just by looking at the cover artwork) and clearly defines the band’s identity. Strong influences from Heavy Load, Gotham City and Witch Cross are evident, yet they are channeled through inspired compositions with a distinct personal character, sure to satisfy the fans of the genre. The production is very well crafted, and the band comes across as a rising force—one we would love to see at a future festival in our country, where the audience would undoubtedly embrace them warmly. Sweden has proven time and again that it rarely disappoints in this field… This is an album that flows smoothly and is an enjoyable listen from start to finish. Personally, the standout tracks are “Shipwreck”, “White Wolf”, “Excalibur”, “Witchking” and of course, the album’s title track, “Conquering Swords”.
