STEVE MORSE BAND – “TRIANGULATION” (2025, MASCOT)

by MythofRock

Steve Morse doesn’t really need an introduction. He’s a legend of rock music, a true guitar virtuoso, known as a founding member of Dixie Dregs, a former member of Kansas, and the longtime guitarist of Deep Purple. It’s been a while since we last heard new music from him, and now he returns with a brand-new album with his band. “Triangulation” is an excellent instrumental guitar album, full of artistic depth and personality. It moves comfortably between hard rock, jazz-rock fusion, and prog rock, reminding us once again just how exceptional Morse is. He plays incredible things, whether we’re talking about main themes or fiery solos. Behind him is his trusted band, supporting him every step of the way — bassist Dave LaRue and drummer Van Romaine also deliver outstanding performances, exciting the listener with their playing. What really makes “Triangulation” stand out is the fact that it’s full of complete, memorable songs, built on beautiful melodies and catchy themes. The album never becomes tiring; instead, it speaks to every music lover who wants something a bit more adventurous, choosing to experience unique instrumental moments. It’s also worth noting that Morse performs one track with his son, Kevin Morse, and he also welcomes impressive guest musicians: John Petrucci and Eric Johnson. All together, the result is a very enjoyable, melodic instrumental album that never drags, but rather charms and captivates. Fans of this kind of instrumental guitar record should pick up “Triangulation” without hesitation. As for everyone else, give it a listen with an open mind — you’ll almost certainly be impressed!
