Swedish progressive metal masters SEVENTH WONDER are set to release their new studio album, “VII”, on January 29, 2027, via Frontiers Music Srl.
To offer fans a first glimpse of the upcoming album, the band has released the single “Memories”, accompanied by an official music video, which can be viewed below.
Bassist Andreas Blomqvist commented: “This was oddly enough one of the last, if not the last song we wrote for the album. We were sweating a bit in that we didn’t feel we had the best song to launch the new band with. Then Kyrt [keyboardist Andreas Söderin] did his magic and brought what would become ‘Memories’ to the studio. [Singer] Mattias [Olofsson] wrote the vocals and also took lead on writing the lyrics and we finished them off together. We feel this is the perfect song to showcase what SEVENTH WONDER of 2026/2027 sounds like and we really hope you like it too!”.
With “VII”, SEVENTH WONDER deliver one of the most inspired and accomplished albums of their career, reaffirming their status as one of the leading acts in the European progressive metal scene. The record also ushers in a new era for the band, introducing vocalist Mattias Olofsson, who joins following the departure of Tommy Karevik, now a member of KAMELOT.
Rather than simply stepping into an existing role, Mattias has become a natural part of the SEVENTH WONDER sound, adding his own personality and vocal style while remaining true to the band’s musical identity. The collaboration proves highly effective, as showcased by the powerful and emotionally charged single “Memories”.
Andreas Blomqvist explained: “It was a daunting task to go out and find a new singer, as well as figure out who we were after the silence since ‘The Testament’. I believe we managed to get all the diversity that we could in there in terms of atmospheres and vibes, but certainly not deviating from the well-known formula of what has become the cornerstone of our unique sound”.
“A new singer is a new face of the band which we hope will reinvigorate the listeners and bring something new and exciting to the table. At the same time long-time fans will probably feel right at home in the sonic landscape of solos, odd time signatures and instrumental endeavors that they’ll be expecting”, he added. “We are thrilled to finally get to share our seventh studio album with you all, and hope you enjoy ‘VII’ as much as we do!”.
Musically, “VII” showcases the band’s songwriting maturity and sophistication. Intricate arrangements, meticulously crafted details, outstanding musicianship and a remarkable sense of melody combine to create an album that is both ambitious and effortlessly natural.
