Twice Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and avant-garde performance artist Poppy has unveiled her new single, “Unravel”, out now via Sumerian Records.
On “Unravel” Poppy exposes her most vulnerable side, blending ethereal vocals and introspective lyrics that build into a fierce, emotionally charged chorus. With each new release, she continues to redefine the boundaries of her sound, carving out a unique and experimental metalcore identity all her own. The track was produced by Jordan Fish (BRING ME THE HORIZON) and co-written by Poppy and Fish.
The accompanying visualizer finds Poppy confronting a looming tornado on the horizon — a powerful metaphor for the song’s emotional turbulence. Directed by Sam Cannon, a frequent collaborator who also helmed the visualizers for Poppy’s 2024 album “Negative Spaces”, the video perfectly mirrors the song’s haunting intensity.
Poppy is in the midst of a remarkable year. Her collaboration with KNOCKED LOOSE, “Suffocate”, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance at the 2025 awards — marking yet another milestone in her trailblazing career. She first made history back in 2021, becoming the first female solo artist ever nominated in that category with her explosive track “Bloodmoney”.
From performance art provocateur — as seen in her new variety show “Improbably Poppy” — to video director, sci-fi graphic novel creator, and globe-trotting musician, Poppy continues to prove that artistic boundaries simply don’t apply to her. Her catalog effortlessly jumps from crushing metal breakdowns to infectious ‘60s pop hooks, trap-inspired beats, and raw grunge energy, all tied together by her fearless and ever-evolving creative vision.
“Unravel” arrives on the heels of Poppy’s haunting take on WHAM!’s holiday classic “Last Christmas”, recorded exclusively for Spotify, and the powerhouse collaboration “End Of You”, featuring Amy Lee and Courtney LaPlante. The latter was hailed as a bold musical statement upon release, earning widespread acclaim and debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart.
