A towering new statue of Ozzy Osbourne was unveiled at this year’s edition of Hellfest, which is taking place from June 18 to June 21. Held annually in the town of Clisson, Hellfest has grown into one of Europe’s premier metal festivals. Standing six meters tall, the impressive sculpture was created by French contemporary artist Philippe Pasqua, renowned for his distinctive paintings, sculptures, and drawings.
On Wednesday (June 17), Ozzy’s widow and longtime manager Sharon Osbourne shared a video of the six-meter-tall statue, which was placed near the Hellfest entrance, and she wrote in a caption: “I’m sorry I couldn’t be at Hellfest for the unveiling of Ozzy’s statue. Unfortunately I had an unexpected trip to the hospital earlier in the week. A big thank you Olivier Garnier, Ben Barbaud and everyone at Hellfest. Special thank you to @philippe_pasqua_officiel for the absolutely stunning statue!”.
In June 2022, a new statue honoring legendary MÖTÖRHEAD frontman Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister was unveiled at that year’s Hellfest. The monument replaced an earlier sculpture of Lemmy that had been installed six years before but had reportedly deteriorated over time, as parts of its plaster construction had begun to crumble significantly.
The redesigned Lemmy statue was crafted by Caroline Brisset, a rising French sculptor whose work has been showcased in both France and Belgium. Drawing inspiration from energy rather than form, and exploring the human condition as a source of both fascination and unease, Brisset creates striking steel sculptures that blend the tangible with the abstract, resulting in a distinctive dreamlike aesthetic.
