OPETH – “§3”

by MythofRock

To celebrate one year since the release of their latest album, “The Last Will And Testament”, Swedish progressive metal band Opeth has premiered a new animated video designed to give fresh visual life to the LP’s complex, fan-theorized storyline. Produced by Absynthe Moon Media, the video presents an artistic re-telling of the album’s cryptic narrative, a story that has fascinated listeners ever since the record arrived in November 2024. The animation delivers a moody, story-driven experience, inviting fans to step deeper into the world Opeth built with the album.

The new animated video for “§3” dives back into the album’s core family saga. Unfolding around a dramatic will reading in the 1920s, centered on a patriarch outlining his final wishes, the clip brings the tension in the room — strained bonds, shifting alliances, unspoken grudges — straight to the surface. It doesn’t spoon-feed answers, though. Instead, it smartly leaves the smaller story threads open, letting viewers connect the dots in their own way.

Steered by the vision of Mikael Åkerfeldt and brought to life by Absynthe Moon Media, the video builds on a concept that feels both personal and purposefully fragmented. It sharpens the album’s main themes — the splintering of identity under deception, inherited legacies balanced on shaky ground, and the gradual breakdown of people who once thought they knew exactly where they belonged.

The final result is intense, atmospheric, and emotionally layered, working perfectly as a companion piece to one of the most ambitious chapters in Opeth’s story.
