With an atmosphere up to the gods of rock and roll, we took the trip all the way to Principal Club to await at the doors for the mighty Nightstalker. The path to the venue was filled with faces… others very young, some wearing band merch, others with their parents, it was truly a heart-warming sight. All these faces had something in common though, anticipation, excitement and adrenaline to get to witness their favourite band present their new album and much more. Time struck around 7:40 and the doors were officially open. Faces flooded the venue, hearts full of emotions and faces full of excitement, the night had for sure begun.
Moloema were up first, taking the stage and making it their home. Straight from Ioannina, the rockers came to show us all they got. And that they did for sure. With a debut album titled “Unpredictable” under their belts, the frontman’s insane energy and the band’s tight yet haze filled playing, they were a great beginning. Tracks like “Desire Dead” and “Mephisto” were definitely crowd (and definitely my personal) favourites. The energy was already pumping and it was time to move to the second act.
None other than in house (from Thessaloniki) heavy rock icons Paranoid Reverb. Having seen the band previously in the 2021 rendition of Mammoth Fest, the expectations were running high and I must say they were more than exceeded. With a fresh approach, they brought their incredible, mind numbing playing and combined it with singer Manos’ head splitting vocals. In a frenzy of a zone, they kept going song after song with piercing guitars and screams. “Rain” from their 2020 album “Billion Drops” was heard, as well as my personal favourite track, “Deep Diver”. With vocals dipped in liquor and gravel, the rhythm was too strong for anyone in the crowd to keep their heads from moving. With anticipation brewing more than ever, the lights slowly dimmed as they said their thank yous.
It was time for the main event. The time we had all been waiting for… as the stage was being set up for them, Nightstalker peaked from the curtains and the crowd erupted. Dim lights, fog and a dazy atmosphere later, the electric quarter officially made their way on the Principal Club stage. Chants and screams, echoed in the, packed to the brim, building. The air was thick with anticipation as the first rumble of distortion cut through the venue like a war cry. Nightstalker had arrived. A surge of electricity ran through the crowd, an energy that had been awakened by heavy riffs and raw attitude. When Argy stepped up to the mic, eyes blazing and voice soaked in rebellion, it felt less like the start of a show and more like the initiation of a ritual. The night was a perfect mix of the past and present, as the band played a set that featured tracks from “Return From The Point Of No Return” performed with a violent ferocity. The new material hit just as hard as the classics. And of course, they didn’t hold back on the fan favorites. When the opening chords of “Children of the Sun” rang out, the crowd erupted, chanting every word like a battle hymn. “Dead Rock Commandos” too, its intensity igniting a frenzy of raised fists and stomping boots. As they tore through “Zombie Hour” and the dark, pulsing “Baby, God Is Dead”, the energy in the room swelled to near-overwhelming levels—a shared catharsis between band and audience that felt like it was way more than just a gig experience. Heat and frenzy levels on the all-time high, moshpits and crazed chants, Nightstalker had done it again. Every time they play, it’s quite clear why they are veterans of the scene. A truly hazy and unforgettable, booze dripped, head banging experience.
