The British hair metal revivalists Midnite City return with their fifth album, “Bite The Bullet”, released via Pride & Joy Music, under the supervision of Grammy-winning producer Chris Laney (Pretty Maids, Europe, Crashdïet, etc.). This is a highly melodic album, packed with layered synths and a strong glam aesthetic—nostalgic, yet at times slightly detached, which creates a sense of monotony. The songs aren’t classic hit material; instead, they flow together, leaving more of an emotional and atmospheric impression. “Heaven in This Hell” balances intensity with melody and is probably the album’s highlight, along with “Lethal Dose of Love”, a very characteristic track, and “Worth Fighting For,” which leans fully into an AOR style. That said, there’s a noticeable lack of strong peaks throughout the album, and it doesn’t feel like the band takes risks or pushes into something different. As a result, after the first three songs, a sense of repetition sets in, with similar tempos and riffs throughout. Midnite City could have done better – maybe next time!
