Revolving around Sicilian singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, writer and sociologist Max Raffa, Messiness is an indie rock band, which defies genre boundaries and creates a very interesting amalgam of Brit pop, art pop, psychedelic pop/rock, space rock, even Canterbury prog rock! “Previous Life” is their debut single, a first taste off their upcoming album, which introduces Messiness to the global pop and rock community. Imagine a revamped edition of the mighty Kula Shaker and you are very close to Messiness’ music style. What dazzled me in this single is the main riff, the overall guitar work and Max Raffa’s vocals – you should get ready for a wild trip, since “Previous Life” stands out from the rest as a song, which shimmers with vibrant energy and sonic daring. Messiness has a unique charisma and presents a wonderful song, which exudes a strange artistry. Max Raffa and his bandmates filter their music inspiration through a kaleidoscopic lens and give a strong sixties vibe to their fine music ideas – they have a warm, vintage sound, which at the same time feels modern and fresh. A sun-soaked groove, jangly/fuzzy guitars, a hypnotic voice, all are important ingredients of a great music work, which will overwhelm even the most demanding listeners. Every time I listen to “Previous Life”, I feel so relaxed and get lost in the band’s music! Messiness is here to bend the rules, paint outside the lines and create out of the box. Keep an eye on them—they’re just getting started!
