LEATHERHEAD – “VIOLENT HORROR STORIES” (2026, NO REMORSE)

by MythofRock

Lately, the Greek power/speed/thrash metal scene has been doing exceptionally well. Moving firmly in that direction is the second album by Larissa-based Leatherhead, who return after a debut that was very well received. “Violent Horror Stories” picks up right where “Leatherhead” left off, only this time it’s darker and far more aggressive. Fans of power/speed/thrash metal are going to lose their minds over Leatherhead’s new songs, which follow the teachings of bands such as Agent Steel, Metal Church, Overkill, Queensrÿche, and more. Leatherhead glorify American metal and triumph with a release that feels complete and focused — an album with a clear beginning, middle, and end, a specific vision, and, of course, inspired songwriting throughout. The first thing that really grabbed my attention was the incredible high-pitched vocals of Tolis Mekras. Beyond that, the album is packed with constant, sharp, killer guitar riffs and a solid, powerful rhythm section. Every element of the record is emphasized and brought to life through the excellent, hard-hitting, crystal-clear production by George Kougioumtzoglou. “Violent Horror Stories” is a fantastic album, born from the imagination of a group of musicians who know exactly what they love to play — and how to play it. The album also has a tremendous atmosphere, transporting the listener straight back to the ’80s without ever sounding outdated or old-fashioned. And the horror-themed lyrics blend perfectly with the overall feeling of the record. The flame of US power/speed/thrash metal burns fiercely throughout the songs of “Violent Horror Stories”. The flag of pure, unfiltered metal is flying high here, and Leatherhead can look us straight in the eye with pride and confidence.
