Extreme progressive/groove metallers Jinjer release their fifth in turn album titled “Duél” via Napalm Records. I was extremely excited to see this announcement, as I’ve been following the Ukrainians ever since their breakthrough track “Pisces” went viral, opening the roads for metal to mainstream music reaction channels. This album contains eleven tracks, with a total runtime of almost 43 minutes. Opening track “Tantrum” is a beautiful, bold powerhouse of a four minute creation, setting the tone for the ever growing band’s album. Jinjer’s signature complexity is present, with intricate vocal and instrumental lines spread all through the record. Although complexity may sound off putting for some, Jinjer, in my opinion, have found a beautiful balance, which allows for experimentation, all the while keeping the listener engaged. Standout tracks from this record, for me, include “Hedonist” and “Rogue”, with vocals absolutely enchanting. These two in particular show Jinjer’s whole personality. If someone who’s never heard them before, asked me to play something from the band, other than “Pisces”, I would without hesitation, go ahead with playing these two. The complexity yet catchiness and the absolute vocal and instrumental mastery is evident. I feel like this record solidified Jinjer’s position in the scene, making sure to let everyone know that they are here to stay. I personally would love to hear something like this from them in the future. Great addition to their discography. This album is mature, masterful and overall a great look for the band.
