British heavy metal icons IRON MAIDEN were forced to temporarily halt their concert in Paris on Monday, June 22, after a widespread power outage across the city plunged Europe’s largest indoor arena into complete darkness. Fans endured an hour-long interruption before the show at the La Défense Arena, which can accommodate up to 40,000 people indoors, was able to resume.
The performance was being filmed for IRON MAIDEN’s upcoming “Run For Your Lives” tour movie, and fans had been informed before the show that it would be a phone-free event, a measure designed to ensure the best possible viewing experience for the film.
About ten minutes after the outage began, the venue’s service lighting was restored, although the stage remained completely dark. Once MAIDEN returned to the stage, vocalist Bruce Dickinson had the difficult task of informing the crowd that the concert would have to conclude at 11:30 p.m. due to the arena’s strict curfew regulations. Consequently, the band was unable to perform its planned three-song encore, which included “Aces High”, “Fear Of The Dark” and “Wasted Years”.
