IHSAHN: THE WEEKND’S DARKER THAN MOST NEW EXTREME METAL BANDS

by MythofRock

Emperor’s Ihsahn has shared his critical opinion about the new extreme metal bands. He has said that most new extreme metal bands are less edgy and less experimental than The Weeknd, the R&B super star! There is a lack of “danger” in the current extreme metal scene, and artists such as The Weeknd are darker than many new extreme metal artists, according to Ihsahn. the legendary frontman of Emperor voiced his criticism,  after telling Metal Hammer magazine that he has recently been listening to the new album from The Weeknd, titled “Dawn FM”.

“It’s so heavy,” Ihsahn commented. “Maybe it’s just me being old and grumpy, but there’s so much new metal coming out where there’s no danger. I listen to a lot of commercial R&B like The Weeknd. That’s darker and more edgy and more experimental than most new extreme metal bands, to be honest.”

Maybe Ihsahn’s criticism is an exaggeration, however, The Weeknd is a gifted musician, with brilliant song ideas. We have to admit that.
