After 22 years away from the studio, Gluecifer return, clearly aware they’ve been missed, and playing with that fact. Right from the start, they make it clear: the long-familiar “drug” is back, even before you hit play. The album kicks off with the direct and electrified “The Idiot”, setting the tone for an album that threads together elements from across their catalog, from the hard rock drive of “Tender Is the Savage” to the melodic polish that defined “Automatic Thrill”, carrying echoes of early punk fire and the occasional glam touch, it comes across as more than a simple nostalgia trip. It plays like a band revisiting its own DNA with experience and purpose. Most tracks keep a steady, confident pace, with a few stepping into fresh territory. “Armadas” rides the classic Gluecifer attack, while “On The Wire” flirts with late-70s post-punk psychedelia, closing the album on a subtly atmospheric note. The songwriting is tight and focused throughout, even if it doesn’t always succeed in reaching the same spontaneous punch or spark that marked some of their strongest moments in the past. Still, the band clearly knows how to shape a solid set of songs, keeping them fun and direct. Lyrically, the themes remain grounded in rock’n’roll nightlife, attitude, and rebellion, but the delivery feels more measured. Several songs build around compact hooks or mini-narratives, giving the material shape and flow. Production is modern and distinctive, though the bass sits more mid-forward and slightly grittier than on earlier records, trimming some of the low-end groove that gives the songs extra punch. Overall, this is a solid and enjoyable return that fits comfortably into the band’s legacy without necessarily trying to surpass it. If you’ve never heard of their music before, this one works well as a first introduction – tight songwriting, melodic lines and crisp riffs all firmly in place. Chances are, though, that exploring their earlier catalog will reveal even more variety and definition. Still, they’re Gluecifer, they’re back, delivering their own kind of “high”.
