FLEA: TO RELEASE DEBUT SOLO ALBUM IN 2026

by MythofRock

After a remarkable, nearly 50-year journey as one of rock’s most influential bassists, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers steps into a long-awaited new chapter: collaborating with an exceptional lineup of contemporary jazz innovators. Reconnecting with his first musical love and original instrument, the trumpet, Flea presents a brand-new album set for release in 2026 via Nonesuch Records. Offering an early taste of what’s to come, Flea’s original composition “A Plea” is out now and available to stream. Listen below. More details about the album will follow in early 2026.

Written and performed by Flea, “A Plea” is a rallying message of connection and creativity, calling on listeners to build bridges, shine light, create beauty, and share it with others.

Flea leads the track on electric bass, vocals, and trumpet, backed by a forward-thinking ensemble featuring double bassist Anna Butterss, guitarist Jeff Parker, drummer Deantoni Parks, percussionist Mauro Refosco, alto flutist Rickey Washington, and trombonist Vikram Devasthali. The vocals are further supported by Chris Warren and producer/musician Josh Johnson, who also plays alto saxophone.

A music video, directed by Los Angeles–based photographer and filmmaker Clara Balzary, featuring choreography by Sadie Wilking, is also out.
