DUNCAN LLOYD – “LAUGH SO LOUD” (2025, SINGLE, REVEAL)

by MythofRock

Duncan Lloyd, best known as the guitarist and songwriter for the acclaimed art rock band Maximo Park and half of the indie project Nano Kino, returns with a compelling solo endeavor. His upcoming album “Unwound” marks a significant step forward in his personal artistic journey. While Lloyd has always been a subtle force behind some of indie rock’s most intelligent and melodic offerings, this new chapter allows his voice—both literal and creative—to take center stage. The first single, “Laugh So Loud”, serves as an exhilarating preview of what “Unwound” promises to be: a vivid blend of indie and alternative rock with rich pop sensibilities and a dash of grunge intensity. It’s a song that immediately grabs the listener with its groovy rhythm and understated yet contagious melodies. The heavy guitars, though loud and fuzzy, never overshadow the song’s accessible structure. Instead, they drive it forward with a dynamic pulse that keeps you engaged. Meanwhile, the rhythm section remains playful and steady, creating a grounded base for Lloyd’s charismatic vocals. Sung in his unmistakably English accent, Lloyd’s delivery flirts with Britpop nostalgia without leaning too heavily into retro territory. The lyrics, centered around themes of self-doubt and emotional concealment, add a layer of introspection to an otherwise vibrant composition. If “Laugh So Loud” is any indication, “Unwound” could very well be one of those albums that balances catchy hooks with mature songwriting—a fresh, invigorating listen that reflects Duncan Lloyd’s evolving artistry. I am looking forward to the full album!
