Swedish post-metal innovators CULT OF LUNA have announced the release of their tenth studio album, “In The Shadow Of Your Shadow”, due out on November 6 through RED CRK. To mark the announcement, the band has unveiled the album’s powerful title track along with an accompanying video, while also confirming upcoming performances at the ArcTanGent and Damnation festivals.
For the past 25 years, CULT OF LUNA have established themselves as one of heavy music’s most uncompromising and innovative acts. Hailing from Umeå, Sweden, the band have consistently pushed the boundaries of post-metal throughout a constantly evolving discography. Never content to stand still, they now return with “In The Shadow Of Your Shadow”, a sprawling 71-minute opus that ranks among the darkest and most emotionally intense releases of their career, featuring guest contributions from GOJIRA frontman Joe Duplantier and David Eugene Edwards.
The album’s lead single and title track arrived online shortly before the official album announcement. Built around the concept of long-suppressed trauma resurfacing after years of silence, the song delves into the re-emergence of a destructive presence once thought to have been overcome.
“‘In The Shadow Of Your Shadow’ is written through the eyes of the traitor within. A battle once fought and believed to be won,” explains CULT OF LUNA frontman and guitarist Johannes Persson. “A conviction that this venomous part of yourself had been buried so deep it could never return. But it was always there, hidden in the cracks of the persona. Silent. Patient. Waiting for the right moment to emerge once again”.

Drawing inspiration from hardcore, sludge metal, folk, art rock, and countless other influences, the Swedish trailblazers have earned a reputation as one of alternative music’s heaviest and most adventurous acts. Their tenth studio album, “In The Shadow Of Your Shadow”, marks another fearless descent into darkness—arguably the bleakest release of their career—while remaining rich with fresh ideas that demonstrate why they continue to stand in a league of their own, 25 years after their debut.
