Long-running Brazilian metal act ANGRA have released the official music video for their new version of “Pra Frente Brasil”, a track that has been part of Brazil’s cultural memory since the 1970 FIFA World Cup. The song has been re-recorded by the band’s current lineup—Alírio Netto, Rafael Bittencourt, Felipe Andreoli, Marcelo Barbosa, and Bruno Valverde—and is now available via ANGRA’s official YouTube channel and social media platforms.
Mixed by Dennis Ward and edited by Maycon Avelino, the new version reaffirms ANGRA’s long-standing connection with a song that first became part of the band’s history in 2002. Back then, the group reimagined the composition as a heavy metal track, bringing it into the realm of power, technical musicianship, and Brazilian identity that has consistently defined ANGRA’s sound.
Originally written by Miguel Gustavo to support Brazil’s national team at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, “Pra Frente Brasil” has endured across generations as one of the most iconic songs in the country’s football culture. It became closely associated with Brazil’s third World Cup triumph, but it also carries the historical context of the era in which it was created, during the military dictatorship, when it was used as part of the nationalist messaging of the time.
In this new recording, ANGRA revisit the material through the lens of a different era and lineup. Alírio Netto, Rafael Bittencourt, Felipe Andreoli, Marcelo Barbosa, and Bruno Valverde reinterpret the song using the band’s current musical identity, preserving its strong melodic core while adding the modern sound that has made ANGRA one of Brazil’s most internationally acclaimed metal acts.
The new version also underscores a defining trait throughout ANGRA’s career: their consistent fusion of heavy metal with elements of Brazilian culture.
